Pregnancy is a transitional time for women, when many physical & emotional changes take place. Prenatal Yoga is about honoring these changes in ourselves and our body as we connect to baby throughout these nine months. In Prenatal Yoga Class we do postures to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, keep the body flexible, and alleviate many common discomforts of pregnancy. We also work on finding our calm center through meditation and the breath, preparing mother for a healthy, mindful, more natural approach to labor and birth.
Prenatal Yoga is used to help mothers connect better with their babies, stay healthy throughout pregnancy, remain flexible and strong, and helping them prepare for the challenges of labor & birth. Prenatal Yoga may be practiced through all trimesters (clearing any medical issues with the care provider). It's also a great way to connect with other mothers-to-be and establish friendships that go far beyond birth.
Postnatal Yoga is used to help mothers reconnect following birth and begin to help the body regain strength and flexibility. The first 40 days after birth is (ideally) a time to bond with baby, establish breast feeding, get lots of rest and allow the body to regain it's strength.
Approximately six weeks following birth, is a good time to return to Postnatal Yoga with your baby to share support and information with other new moms. We use yoga postures to help mom regain abdominal strength, body flexibility and tone. We incorporate songs and movement with the babies and gentle massage on the babies to help bond & relax. Breast-feeding is welcome and supported! It's a special time of sharing with other new moms, discussing common postpartum issues and nurturing the body through gentle stretching.
Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga is a specialty which should be practiced only with a certified prenatal/postpartum instructor. Catherine Moon Rubin completed her 200 hour Yoga Certification through Paula Heitzner at the New Age Center in Nyack. She completed her Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga training through Prenatal Plus Yoga in Miami Florida. Both programs are recognized by Yoga Alliance, making Catherine an RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) and an RPYT (Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher).
Moon River is currently offering both Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Classes at Nyack Yoga @ 42 Main. Check our CALENDAR for class times.
